Maak kennis met de grootste helicopter ooit gebouwd, gebaseerd op de Russische Mil Mi-12 waarvan ooit twee prototypes gemaakt zijn. De Hotelicopter is een revolutionaire ontwikkeling binnen de luchtvaartgeschiedenis en binnenkort is het mogelijk om mee te vliegen.

De eerste vlucht staat op 26 juni a.s. gepland. Bij facebook of twitter kun je de ontwikkelingen volgen en word je geïnformeerd over toekomstige reserveringen. Het vliegende hotel bevat 18 luxueus ingerichte kamers met o.m. een koninklijk bed, een mini-bar, koffiemachine, draadloos internet en alle andere zaken (zoals roomservice) die je van een vijfsterren hotel mag verwachten. Er is voorlopig keuze uit twee arrangementen, ook in Europa maar de Hotelicopter doet Nederland niet aan.

Elke vrijdag is er op Radio 2 een legendarisch concert van een grote popartiest te horen. De opnames komen uit de archieven van de KRO, die sinds de jaren zeventig vele honderden popconcerten heeft opgenomen. Toch wel een heleleuke site om even te kijken of er iets voor je bij zit. Zo ook een compleet (Met Bon Scott) ACDC optreden. Veel plezier !

Although I was born and raised in the United States, there is no doubt that my sculpture has been significantly influenced by my trips to Europe. In fact, having been trained as a painter, I may not have started sculpting had it not been for the semester I spent in Rome in 1987—or at the very least, it may have taken me longer to realize that I prefer three dimensions over two. While there, I was especially impressed by traditional marble sculpture, particularly, the work done by three classical giants: Michelangelo, Dontatello and Bernini.

But never once did I entertain the (currently popular) idea that their work is superficial, trivial, or even trite, primarily because it has been so popular, particularly with the masses. So, quite content with the vulgar appeal of representational sculpture, I returned to the U.S. and began working in wood, which was the only medium available to me; I made “George” at this time.

But in the back of my mind, I was certain that I would eventually work in some kind of stone. However, over the next few years, I grew attached to the warmth and unpredictability of the wood. I was hooked.

Nature transformed through industry is a predominant theme in my work. I set course to intersect with a contemporary view of the great ages of man; from stone, to minerals, oil, transportation, silicon, and so on. To make these ideas visible I search for subjects that are rich in detail and scale yet open in their meaning. Recycling yards, mine tailings, quarries and refineries are all places that are outside of our normal experience, yet we partake of their output on a daily basis.

These images are meant as metaphors to the dilemma of our modern existence; they search for a dialogue between attraction and repulsion, seduction and fear. We are drawn by desire - a chance at good living, yet we are consciously or unconsciously aware that the world is suffering for our success. Our dependence on nature to provide the materials for our consumption and our concern for the health of our planet sets us into an uneasy contradiction. For me, these images function as reflecting pools of our times.

Love, excitement, curiosity, sadness, passion, melancholy, angst, fear, bliss, anger, joy, compassion, strength, weakness, tenderness and determination are some of the words we use to express what it is to be alive. I use oil- based paints on stretched canvas to present my explorations into the world of human emotions and interpret them in narrative, subject-based scenarios. Meet the beat uit Amersfoort:

basis voor de band is in de zomer van 2006 gelegd door Michel, Stefan en Mariette. Na een try-out bleek de muzikale duizendpoot Volkert het laatste ontbrekende beetje cement te zijn. Met zijn inhuizing was het fundament van de band een feit. Een aantal wisselingen verder is Meet The Beat nu een rock-pop coverband met een geheel eigen geluid dat staat als een huis. Stevig klinkende pop- en rockcovers uit de jaren 70-80 tot nu. Wil je een keer komen luisteren kom dan langs op onze wekelijkse repetitie op donderdagavond op de Popschool in Amersfoort (de Isselt). Een eigenzinnig repertoire dat met name door de uiteenlopende muzikale smaken van de bandleden bepaald wordt. Gedreven door muzikale ambitie worden de nummers voorzien van een -Meet The Beat saus- die het live goed doet. Een optreden van Meet The Beat bestaat uit een een groot aantal "feestjes van herkenning".

Het Beatles-album Abbey Road uit 1969 is naar de Abbey Road Studios vernoemd. Op de platenhoes verscheen een foto van The Beatles terwijl ze op Abbey Road over een zebrapad lopen. Op die foto staat een Volkswagen Kever (een Beetle dus) met het kenteken LMW 28 IF. Het is de auto van iemand die daar woont en het is niet waarschijnlijk dat de fotograaf de auto opzettelijk in de opname heeft gezet. De kentekenplaat wordt thans veelvuldig door souvenirjagers gestolen.

Later, in 1988, zouden de Red Hot Chili Peppers dit kopiëren door op de hoes van hun Abbey Road EP dezelfde platenhoes te gebruiken, maar dan lopen de Peppers met niets dan een sok om hun penis over dit zebrapad. Download de beatles hier.

De oorsprong voor het twaalfde studio album van U2, No Line On The Horizon ligt in Fez, Marokko. De eerste sessies die hier werden opgenomen zetten de toon voor het meest innovatieve album sinds Achtung Baby. No Line On The Horizon erd vervolgens opgenomen in de studio van U2 in Dublin, New York’s latinum Sound Recording Studio en in de Olympic Studios in London en werd geproduceerd door Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois en Steve Lillywhite.

De eerste single Get On Your Boots gaat verder waar Vertigo ophield, een nummer waarop U2 rockt zoals nooit tevoren. De invloeden van Marokko en de productie van Brian Eno zijn bijvoorbeeld tekenend op Breathe, volgens Eno een van U2s beste nummers ooit. Maar ook de typische U2 klassiekers zijn op No Line On The Horizon te vinden, zoals het 7-minuut durende Moment Of Surrender, Ill Go Crazy If I Dont Go Crazy Tonight en het prachtige Magnificent. U2 blijft zichzelf als band vernieuwen, waardoor No Line On The Horizon geinspireerd klinkt en een brok energie en elektriciteit over brengt op de fan. Dit alles bevestigt waarom U2 ook in 2009 een van de grootste bands ter wereld blijft. Met de woorden van Bono in Q Magazine: “We have joy. We have rage. We’re unreasonable. “We can take a punch. But we can throw one!”.

It's a tragedy that the Israelis - a people who must understand better than almost anybody the horrors of oppression - are now acting as oppressors. As the great Jewish writer Primo Levi once remarked "Everybody has their Jews, and for the Israelis it's the Palestinians". By creating a middle Eastern version of the Warsaw ghetto they are recapitulating their own history as though they've forgotten it. And by trying to paint an equivalence between the Palestinians - with their homemade rockets and stone-throwing teenagers - and themselves - with one of the most sophisticated military machines in the world - they sacrifice all credibility.

The Israelis are a gifted and resourceful people who fully deserve the right to live in peace, but who seem intent on squandering every chance to allow that to happen. It's difficult to avoid the conclusion that this conflict serves the political and economic purposes of Israel so well that they have every interest in maintaining it. While there is fighting they can continue to build illegal settlements. While there is fighting they continue to receive huge quantities of military aid from the United States. And while there is fighting they can avoid looking candidly at themselves and the ruthlessness into which they are descending.

In de jaren 2000-2005 viel het Israëlische leger geregeld Gaza-stad binnen, met name de wijk Zetoun. Hier bevinden zich volgens het Israëlische leger veel illegale werkplaatsen waar munitie of wapens gemaakt worden, waaronder Qassamraketten die geregeld op Israëlische steden en dorpen worden afgevuurd. In augustus 2005 trok Israël zich definitief terug uit de Gaza-strook.

Na de dood van Yasser Arafat werd door de internationale gemeenschap, de VS en Israël op kop, sterk aangedrongen op democratische verkiezingen. In 2006 won Hamas deze verkiezingen van Fatah, maar de verkozenen werden door Israël gedeporteerd. In juni 2007 veroverde Hamas na een interne oorlog met Fatah gewapenderhand de Gazastrook, inclusief Gaza-stad en verklaarde Gaza "bevrijd". Veel aanhangers van Fatah vluchtten naar Egypte en de Westelijke Jordaanoever, uit vrees voor executie door de nieuwe machthebbers.

Op 27 december 2008 volgde een militair conflict met Israël dat op 6 januari 2009 reeds 635 slachtoffers aan Palestijnse zijde kostte en acht aan de zijde van Israël. Gaza-stad werd omsingeld en de gehele Gaza-strook werd in meerdere delen verdeeld door Israëlische blokkades. Ook bevindt zich in de stad de zogenaamde Martelarenbegraafplaats, de begraafplaats waar al eeuwenlang inwoners worden begraven, die gestorven zijn in oorlogen om de stad.

Deze jonge Israëliërs kijken met nieuwsgierig en geamuseerd naar het bombarderen van de palestijnse bevolking. Ze kijken door de verkijker en ze lachen. Het is tijd om te genieten van de uitroeiing van het Palestijnse volk!

Een van de weinige gebieden waarop de Afghaanse economie wel succesvol is, is de (illegale) productie en export van opium. In dat kader heeft zij zelfs het beruchte opiumgebied van de in Zuidoost-Azië gelegen Gouden Driehoek achter zich gelaten. Met naar schatting 3400 ton (2002) is Afghanistan 's werelds grootste opiumproducent. In 1999 was de productie nog 5000 ton, maar onder de Taliban werd de productie verboden, en zakte ineen tot minder dan 200 ton. Een actie van de regering-Karzai om de opiumproductie te stoppen, mislukte, doordat de compensatie voor de boeren onvoldoende was, en door sterk verzet van de met de opiumhandel vervlochten krijgsheren.
