Alison Krauss (born July 23, 1971) is an American bluegrass-country singer, songwriter and fiddler. She entered the music industry at an early age, winning local contests by the age of ten and recording for the first time at fourteen. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album in 1987. She was invited to join the band with which she still performs, Alison Krauss and Union Station (AKUS), and later released her first album with them as a group in 1989. She has released eleven albums, appeared on numerous soundtracks, and helped renew interest in bluegrass music in the United States. Her soundtrack performances have led to further popularity, including the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, an album also credited with raising American interest in bluegrass, and the Cold Mountain soundtrack, which led to her performance at the 2004 Academy Awards. During her career she has won 26 Grammy Awards, making her the most awarded female artist (and the third most awarded artist overall) in Grammy history.

Op 17 november 2009 verscheen er een nieuw album van Mayer. Het liedje "Who Says" werd de eerste single van Battle Studies. Volgens Mayer zullen er veel singles van het album verschijnen, in tegenstelling tot zijn vorige albums. Voor het schrijven van zijn nieuwe album Battle Studies huurde Mayer een huis in de heuvels van Hollywood in Californië waar hij leefde en werkte gedurende zes maanden. Om zich optimaal te kunnen concentreren en in te leven in het schrijven van nieuwe nummers liet hij het huis ombouwen in een heuse ‘muziekstudio’.

Over zijn nieuwe locatie zei Mayer op zijn blog het volgende: "It's a house in a clandestine location that's being converted into a music studio. No, not a music studio. An entire music experience". Tijdens het schrijven van zijn album hield hij zijn fans op de hoogte door het plaatsen van video’s en foto’s, aantekeningen en teksten op zijn blog. Mayer raakte geïnspireerd door de Californische rock/pop uit de jaren ’70 en ’80, waarvan de invloeden goed zijn terug te horen. Het album, bestaande uit elf nieuwe nummers, heeft een totale luistertijd van 45 minuten.

Though the set focuses on blues material, Winters can never leave his rock roots behind -- the sheer volume and pile-driving energy of his performances ensures that. For most of the record, his enthusiasm is contagious, but there are a couple of bland, generic exercises that fail to work up a head of steam. Johnny Winter begon op 5-jarige leeftijd met muziek maken op de klarinet. Later koos Johnny de ukelele, en op aandringen van zijn vader koos hij voor de gitaar als instrument. Op 11-jarige leeftijd begon hij een duo samen met zijn broer Edgar. Vanaf 1959 speelde hij in verschillende onbekende bandjes totdat hij in 1968 zijn grote doorbraak maakte.

Johnny Winter profiteerde eind jaren zestig van het succes van een nieuwe generatie van rockgitaristen, zoals Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, en Carlos Santana. In 1968 wordt hij door het blad Rolling Stone samen met Janis Joplin uitgeroepen tot één van de grote beloften in de rockmuziek. Johnny valt, behalve door zijn virtuoze gitaarspel, op door het feit dat hij, net als broer Edgar, een albino is. Winter maakt vanaf 1968 verscheidene succesvolle albums, en raakt dan verslaafd aan heroïne. Zijn muziek neigt steeds meer naar hardrock totdat hij in 1977 begint samen te werken met Muddy Waters. In de jaren tachtig maakt Winter een aantal albums met bluesrock in een geheel eigen stijl, waaronder Guitar SlingerThird Degree. Vanaf de jaren negentig gaat Johnny Winter fysiek sterk achteruit. Volgens sommigen is die achteruitgang te wijten aan zijn vroegere levensstijl, drank en drugs. Volgens anderen is het feit dat hij een albino is de oorzaak. Hij blijft echter optreden en brengt ook nog steeds regelmatig cd's uit.

The North Mississippi Allstars were founded in 1996; a product of a special time for modern Mississippi country blues. RL Burnside, Jr. Kimbrough, Otha Turner and their musical families were at their peak; touring the world, making classic records and doing the all-night boogie at Jr's Juke Joint and Otha's BBQ Goat picnics -- the music and the culture rich as the black Mississippi dirt. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi Blues legacy while playing and shaking it down at the juke joints with their blues ancestors. Luther (guitar and vocals) and Cody (drums and vocals) joined up with bassist Chris Chew to form the core of their own band, The North Mississippi Allstars. Through the filter of generations of Mississippi Blues men, the Allstars pioneered their own blues-infused rock and roll and continue to do so.

The band hit the road with the release of their first record, Shake Hands With Shorty, Grammy-nominated for “Best Contemporary Blues Album.” Bringing their hill country blues-infused rock & roll to stages all over the country and the world (including multiple tours in Europe and Asia), the Allstars quickly gained a loyal fan base, and to date have released six full-length albums. The bands’s third record, Phantom Record also received a Grammy nod. Recently the band released their first studio album Hernando on their own label Songs of the South.

The band is actively touring and headlining shows across the country in addition to ocassionally supporting other great acts such as Kid Rock and John Hiatt.

Danny Gokey started singing with his family in church, but stated he would rather record mainstream music than perform solely contemporary Christian music. He has been the worship director at his church in Milwaukee, Faith Builders International Ministries, for several years. He is the fifth of six children. He has a brother, Charles, and four sisters. He has acknowledged the influence of Jeffrey and Robin Pruitt, the pastors of the church he works at and called his faith the "key to who I am. On July 9, 2008, four weeks before he auditioned for American Idol, Gokey's wife underwent routine surgery for congenital heart disease. It was her third surgery, but she died from complications. The couple had been together for 12 years, and Gokey credited her for his success. Sophia was a fan of American Idol and encouraged Gokey to be a contestant, and Danny started a foundation in her name Sophia's Heart Foundation with some of her family members who are also musicians. The foundation includes a program to provide donated musical instruments to students.

Faith Hill werd als Audrey Faith Perry op 21 september 1967 geboren in Jackson, Mississippi. Ze groeide op in het nabijgelegen stadje Star. Als peuter zong ze al de hele dag door en op haar zevende had Faith haar eerste publieke optreden. Haar voorbeeld was countryzangeres Reba McEntire. Toen ze 17 jaar was richtte ze een band op waarmee ze op rodeofestivals en kermissen optrad. Op haar negentiende stopte ze met school en verhuisde ze naar Nashville om daar een zangcarrière te proberen op te zetten. Haar eerste baantjes waren het verkopen van t-shirts op fandagen en kermissen en het werken als hulpje van Reba McEntire.

Zo ontmoette ze platenbaas Daniel Hill, met wie ze een relatie kreeg. Op 23 juli 1988 trouwde het stel. Daarna werd ze secretaresse bij een platenmaatschappij, waar ze bij toeval werd opgemerkt terwijl ze in zichzelf aan het zingen was. Haar baas Gary Morris drong er op aan dat ze demo's ging inzingen en ging samenwerken met zanger/producer Gary Burr, met wie ze uiteindelijk haar eerste eigen demo maakte en regelmatig optredens verzorgde. Een platenbaas bij Warner zag en hoorde het duo optreden in een club in Nashville en bood Faith een solo-contract aan. Faith Hill is getrouwd met countryster Tim McGraw. Ze hebben drie kinderen.

Without wishing to sound too much like a recorded pre-flight safety announcement, the thing I’m most concerned about when I’m planning, organising and carrying out expeditions is my own safety. Convincing sponsors, the media, the audiences I speak to, my girlfriend and my mum that solo expeditions without support over several weeks in one of the least hospitable places on the planet aren’t inherently reckless has at times been difficult.

And while I suspect I have a healthier appetite than most for challenge, solitude, hardship and risk, outright danger is something I’ll go out of my way to steer clear of.

Since he went solo back in the early '90s, ex-True Believer and Rank & File, Alejandro Escovedo has blended the lyricism of Bruce Springsteen and Jackson Browne with the raw power of the Stooges and the Velvet Underground, often adding traditional elements like Latin rhythms and even chamber music.

The result is music with heart, brains and a burning sense of adventure. The downside is that Escovedo's broad musical palette sometimes plays tug of war with the deeply spiritual and emotional resonance of his words. In 1996, Alejandro Escovedo continued the artistic expansion he'd started in earnest a few years earlier with his post-Rank N File solo albums, writing songs of heartbreak exasperation via crunching, low-slung rockers and rootsy folk ballads.

Aynsley has never been an artist to reheat the music of yesteryear. Influenced from an early age by the 60’s RnB era, Lister takes these key elements and mixes them with a more current and melodic lyrical approach. He is one of very few artists playing blues infused rock with a modern edge -tangible, heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine songwriting; played with passion and vitality. His hard hitting rhythms and guitar work are reminiscent of a young Clapton.

Lister began his career when he signed to Ruf Records in 1998. During his time on the label he worked with producers such as Jim Gaines (SRV, Santana) and Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers) and recorded four studio albums, two live albums and two DVD’s. However, if these earlier albums were Lister making his mark as a well respected blues rock artist, it was when he signed to Manhaton Records in June 2008 that he showed he had more commercial appeal to a bigger audience.
