The Works section of this site contains a selection of oil paintings by the contemporary British figurative painter, Michael Taylor. Michael is a winner of the National Portrait Gallery John Player Award (subsequently the BP Award), the Holburne Contemporary Portrait Prize, and the Millfield Open Art Competition. The paintings presented on this site are from the period since the artist left Goldsmiths College School of Art, but are largely drawn from more recent years.

Most of these works are in private and public collections and have been exhibited at various galleries. These include the Royal Academy (London), Waterhouse and Dodd (London), Beaux Arts (London and Bath), the Morley Gallery, the Mall Galleries (Hunting Group Award 3rd prize, and Royal Society of Portrait Painters). His works are also exhibited by the National Portrait Gallery (London, England), for whom he was commissioned to paint portraits of the guitarist and lutenist, Julian Bream, and of the crime-fiction writer, P D James.

The National Portrait Gallery have also purchased a portrait by Michael of composer, Sir John Tavener. His painting, Couple with Lamp, won the 2002 Holburne Contemporary Portrait Prize, which lead to the commission to paint jazz saxophonist, Andy Sheppard for the permanent collection of the Holburne Museum of Art.
From 16 October 2007 Michael's portraits of PD James and Renata Symonds will be included in a major exhibition of 20th century urban domestic interiors at the Geffrye Museum in London.
