I like taking pictures. Every image I create that makes me go "wow" brings an umimaginable sense of satisfaction to me. The more I do it, the better I get at it, and it's interesting to see how I progress. In the meanwhile, I'm keeping a record of all the work I do, as a way of looking back. So here it is, a selection of the images I've created over the last few years. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed shooting them.

This month, Afghanistan held parliamentary elections with nearly 2,500 candidates for 249 seats. Turnout was very light under threat of violence from the Taliban, and accusations of fraud are widespread. Afghan President Karzai announced the formation of a 70-member peace council, a step towards formal discussions with the Taliban.

And American and Afghan troops have now begun active combat in an offensive to drive the Taliban out of their strongholds surrounding the city of Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban. With 51 more coalition troops killed this month, the total number of deaths for coalition troops in 2010 reached 541 compared with 521 for all of 2009.

Collected here are images of the country and conflict over the past month, part of an ongoing monthly series on Afghanistan.

HEAD Magazine is an online publication designed to showcase the creative talents of established and emerging visual artists from all over the world.

HEAD Magazine was founded in 2003 by Steve Kraitt and Nicolene Hannan, and provides an editorial and advertising-free platform for exhibiting the work of photographers, artists, illustrators and designers. From the outset, the central ethos and conceptual objective of HEAD Magazine has been to provide artists with a global platform of the "purest" form.

It was
the primary intention of Steven and Nicolene to create a publication that concerned itself entirely and exclusively with the presentation of visual art, without any of the influence or distraction that editorial association can often apply.

HEAD strives to present only the work itself and nothing more; no
biographical information regarding the creator/s of the work, no review or assessment of the work, and no other form of written content that could influence or inform the reader further than the immediate emotional response that the work itself prompts. This lack of editorial is one of the primary attractions of Head Magazine, and the reason so many of our readers find our concept so fresh and appealing.

If I were to give my body of work a title, it would be, "Propaganda for the Soul". The motivation behind my work is a need to find a position. I want to set up the viewer and hold them. I do this by simplifying my imagery, distilling it, and then consider the best way to spark my audience`s interest and self-reflection.

This "Position", whether it be physical, social, historical, spiritual etc... seems to manifest itself when I produce moments that bear witness. Realistic representation is my vehicle that best suits my aims, however these are fabricated moments of acute clarity of mind not necessarily clarity of sight. Through open narratives, my aim is to make the viewer feel absolutely present. "They are images before the car chase or just after the crash, however banal or earth shaking; these are the moments when the most important decisions are made."

LG Electronics treedt op als sponsor van Life in a Day.

I stopped and turned to look behind me. The slope twisted palely down toward the town like the tracks of some gigantic insect. I looked up at the sky then, under the moonlight, and glanced at my palm. With a rush of understanding I knew this wasn’t my hand anymore.

I can’t explain it. But at a glance I knew. My hand was no longer my hand, my legs no longer my legs.
Bathed in the pallid moonlight, my body, like some plaster puppet, had lost all living warmth. As if a voodoo magician had put a spell on me, blowing my transient life into this lump of clay. The spark of life had vanished. My real life had fallen asleep somewhere, and a faceless someone was stuffing it in a suitcase, about to leave. An awful chill swept through me and I felt choked. Someone had rearranged my cells, untied the threads that held my mind together. I couldn’t think straight. All I was able to do was retreat as fast as I could to my usual place of refuge. I took a huge breath, sinking in the sea of consciousness to the very bottom. Pushing aside the heavy water I plunged down quickly and grabbed a huge rock there with both arms.
I love art. I love looking at it, I love talking about it and I certainly love making it, so it’s really no surprise that art would be my chosen profession. From early on there really wasn’t any doubt that a career in art was the direction I was headed. I was hardly interested in anything else and a lion’s share of my childhood was spent with my head in the clouds, doodling a veritable army of dinosaurs, space ships, demons and imps.

Even much of my later schooling was spent failing other useful but mundane subjects like chemistry, math and english while art was the one area that I excelled at. College was hardly different, I spent six years finding myself and taking a lot of classes before graduating with a BFA. Documented and dedicated to my chosen profession I set out to make my veritable mark on the world.
Since then I’ve held all sorts of jobs, from graphic designer to 3D modeler, photo-retoucher to illustrator. I’ve studied, learned, grown and spent a lot of time as a professional artist making a decent living doing art, but in all that time and through all those jobs I’ve learned one all important thing.

It was the time I spent, like the kid at the kitchen table, creating art for no other reason than sheer wonder of it all, that I was happiest. No matter the piece or the end result it’s the art that we do for ourselves that wholly reflects us as people. It is that art which is purest, it is that art which holds the most magic, it is that art which connects on the deepest level and it is that art that this site is all about.
So, on that note, take a look around, see what I have to offer and hopefully something in here pops, something connects you to that little boy, drawing spaceships and dinosaurs, and leaves you with a sense of wonder all your own.

According to the account of the earlier incident in the leaked logs, the insurgents had jumped out of their truck after it came under fire from the Apache. "They came out wanting to surrender," Crazyhorse 18 signalled. Clearance to kill came back from an unnamed lawyer at the nearby Taji airbase. "Lawyer states they can not surrender to aircraft and are still valid targets," the log entry says.

After receiving the lawyer's advice, the pilots reported that the men had by now got back into their truck and were attempting to drive on. The gunship made two attempts to kill the fleeing men, launching a Hellfire missile at the truck.
At first the fresh attack failed. "Individuals have run into another shack," the crew signalled. As the Apache hovered high in the sky, a few miles north of Baghdad, the pilots viewed a zoomed-in image of the fleeing pair on their video screen. The crew then received a further specific top-level kill instruction from brigade HQ and made another strafing run, firing bursts from long distance at 300 rounds a minute from the Apache's 30mm cannon. This time, the gunner succeeded in killing both men. At 1.03pm on 22 February, just 24 minutes after receiving legal clearance, the crew filed a log entry: "Crazyhorse 18 reports engaged and destroyed shack with 2X AIF [anti-Iraq forces].

Battle damage assessment is shack/dump truck destroyed."
Crazyhorse 18 was part of the US army's 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, normally based at Fort Hood, Texas. Five months after this incident, on 12 July 2007, the crew of an Apache with the same call sign mistakenly killed 22-year-old Reuters photographer Namir Noor-Eldeen and his driver, Saeed Chmagh, after opening fire on a group of eight men they believed to be insurgents armed with rocket-propelled grenades and AK47 rifles in a Baghdad suburb.

Two children were badly injured and their father killed when the Apache crew fired armour-piercing shells at a van which arrived on the scene. The account of the February incident recorded in the classified log suggests the Crazyhorse 18 crew were not trigger-happy, but sought immediate advice from their superiors at all stages of the attack.

Taylor Swift heeft haar CD uit. Lekker luchtig, prettig verteerbaar.

* Speak Now - Speak Now is uitgekomen op 5 oktober 2010.

Marcello Daldoce : About me
I started learning to paint when I was 16 and dropped out of school 3 years later. I stayed home to paint by myself. A year afterwards I applied to an art school called Núcleo de Arte. I didn’t just study , I also lived there for a year. Then I interned in a design studio and an illustration studio for 12 months, and after that I started working at an ad agencies in Brazil. I stayed there 4 years. During 6 years I worked at my own illustration studio MACACOLÂNDIA with three partners. Today I’m living and painting in Miami Beach.

Shane De Vries.

When we first saw Shane Devries’ paintings, we flipped our lids.

We flipped our lids so hard the neighbours complained about all the flipping noises. After packing in his day job last year to concentrate on painting, Shane is brand new to the art scene in A-town – but, luckily, he has an ace up his sleeve: he’s lid-flippingly talented.

In the wake of his terribly cool Monster Kid exhibition at Gallery 139, we sat down with Shane to have a word about future plans, how to cultivate a mysterious aura, and (for some reason) Rolf de Heer.

I'm a freelance concept artist and illustrator, at the moment living in Gdansk, Poland. I deal with variety of projects - especially CG animations, TV shows and commercials. I'm a self-taught digital painter who owes skills to his unceasing ambition fueled by awesome (but at the same time frustrating haha) artistic individuals over the Internet.

It was in early 90s of the previous century when I first experienced digital art :). Commodore 64 gave incredible palette of 16 colours, resolution of 160x200 pixels and a joystick instead of a tablet. From that time I made noticeable progress, but a statistical man's life length in my country is too short to allow me to achieve the desired level.
I'd like to focus on film and game industry. I enjoy using my imagination and create another worlds. My works are created in many styles and genre, but the most important thing for me is always the mood and atmosphere.
Thom Tenery.

If you look at enough concept art, particularly within the gaming industry, much of it can come to feel repetitive and even formulaic; which why I was so pleased to discover the concept art of Thom Tenery, which is delightfully imaginative, unique and wonderfully realized. Tenery studied Architecture at the University of Texas, Aus
tin, and worked designing architecture and interiors for a number of years.

He studied illustration and concept design at the Art Center College of Design, and moved into that field. His work is included in the book, In the Future…: Entertainment Design at Art Center College of Design. Tenery has done work for companies like Sony Entertainment, Propaganda Games and Spacetime Studios; and is currently Senior Concept Artist at ID Software. His web site has a long, single page gallery of concept art from various projects; which are not identified. His sketchblog, lab luna, has additional concept images, plus sketches, speedpaintings and plein air paintings in gouache.

A dangerous criminal gang is riding the net.
They act in the dark, exploring the most sinister places, in search for the bloody heart of talent and creativity. Their favourite victims are banality, conformism, lack of humor and good will at any cost. Killing Bambi is a good metaphor for their mission. They are unarmed, actually, but they can still hurt.
So be careful…

Maar is Little Big Town echt country?
Pop out van L-B-T hier.

The Band Perry classify their music as a cross pollination of country and rock and roll, which is exactly the way they were raised, and how they came to love to play music. The sibling-trio from Mobile, Alabama features Kimberly, Neil, and Reid Perry, and their story resembles the feel-good saga of a group of talented musicians who dream big, play hard, and, with a little bit of luck, get their shot at the big time.

After signing to Republic Nashville in 2009, TBP has just released their self-titled debut E.P. It’s been a long journey for the Alabama trio, and with their fresh, upbeat twist on the collaboration of country and rock and roll, The Band Perry just might be around for awhile.Overall, this is a solid debut from The Band Perry…at least for an abbreviated album.

I can’t help but wonder how the rest of the disc would be if it were to run another five or six tracks, which will be the case for a full length release. Still, the E.P. does a satisfactory job at delivering a catchy radio single, while also offering a limited selection of both upbeat and lulled selections. TBP’s debut has undoubtedly put the Alabama trio on the country music map; the only question is how far it will take them.

Buitenom kan ook.

Given a pretty free brief for the IGI Offset event "Laundry" which is on in Dublin next Wednesday, I set about creating an image that reflected many of my own deeper pre-occupations and visual fixations.

Merriam-Webster-Dictionary defines the word “restlessness” as lacking or denying rest; continuously moving; and Country duo Sugarland is displaying that trait like a beautiful strutting peacock on their fourth studio album, The Incredible Machine.

Stuck like glue. Grappige videoclip. Hoezo grappig eigelijk ?

Family, both blood and band, figures prominently in the Sister Hazel world. Newell, the one bandmember who isn't a family man, asserts that, "Family has always been first in this band and we finally have found the balance to make it all work." One of Block and Copeland's favorite parts during this recording experience was when they went were able to record vocals at Crescent Beach (where they went as kids) and were able to surf and sing while having their families there too.

The band still hits the road regularly, doing around 100 dates annually, but they also find other avenues to maintain close ties to their fans. "The only way we can keep doing what we are doing is having our fans continue to connect and support us," proclaims Copeland. CD staat ook op multiupload.

Nou, daar is ze dan.

Beth Hart is terug.

North Korea is in the midst of a series of large-scale events designed to both commemorate the 65th anniversary of the founding of its ruling Workers' Party, and to introduce heir apparent Kim Jong Un to the North Korean people and the world.

Current leader Kim Jong Il is now 69 years old and ailing, and has now positioned his twenty-something son, Kim Jong Un, as his successor through recent military and party promotions, and through media coverage of him by his father's side. Many western reporters were invited to these performances, though their freedom to cover events was still limited by minders. Collected here are images from the recent highly-orchestrated events in Pyongyang, and the "young general" Kim Jong Un.

Oh man, could watch this all day. Looks like so much fun... Why didn't we do some of this during the summer?!

Orillia, Ontario's Bleeker Ridge had a good seven years of dedicated rehearsals, songwriting and gigs before landing a dream record deal with Roadrunner Records Canada and cutting an album, Small Town Dead, with legendary producer Bob Marlette (Shinedown, Default, Seether, Airbourne), chockfull of hooky hard rock anthems.

That kind of woodshedding might not seem unusual, except the band formed when they were kids. The melodic hard rock quartet is comprised of two sets of brothers — lead singer Taylor Perkins 21; guitarist Cole Perkins, 19; guitarist Dan Steinke, 19; and drummer Dustin Steinke, 20 — who met in 2003 at a local jam night in Lagoon City (pop. 3000).

They went from playing Joe Walsh and Jimi Hendrix covers to writing originals, which they released on two independent CDs. But the songs on their label debut, Small Town Dead, recorded at Henson Studios in Hollywood and Bob's home studio in Woodland Hills, California, shows a band whose musicianship and songwriting skills belie their years.

Marty speelt gitaar in Martina's band.

In Duitsland was Nur geträumt in 1982 hun eerste hit.

Travis Millard:

I grew up about 20 minutes from KCMO in glamourous Olathe, Kansas. I moved to Brooklyn for a few years and now live in Echo Park, Los Angeles. Every place I've lived has been an influence on me in one way or another. Kansas instilled ethics, New York broadened my horizons, and Los Angeles turned me into the plastic surgery disaster I am today. I love and hate every project i've ever done. They all go in waves of confidence and excitement, to feeling burned out and confused, and back again. I approach them all equally as a challenge and set out to carve a loose path to something I'm happy with in the end. I tend to work on a range of different projects, and each time I start something new it feels unfamiliar at first, but gels after noodling around on it for a while.. so I guess nothing's completely set. I have a flat file with piles of unfinished drawings that I shuffle through and pick up randomly. As I work on one of those, thoughts bubble on other projects and I might shift gears to whatever else is on the desk.
