Chris Norman may not exactly be a household name these days, but let me assure you that no matter who you are there is a good chance that you have heard at least one or two of his songs in your life. The main one would be LIVING NEXT DOOR TO ALICE which Chris wrote and recorded during his time as the front man for SMOKIE, he also had a big hit in the form of a duet with Suzi Quatro that you would have probably heard at some stage.

His new album is an all covers affair, and I’m quite enjoying it at the moment. The songs he has chosen make for a pretty interesting set list and the affliction for the more modern brand of song is an interesting one indeed.

I love it when artists do something a little different, and this album certainly makes the criteria. It’s nothing amazing, but it’s interesting to hear these songs sung in Norman’s unique vocal style and will be something that fans of the man will find to be pretty special.

Released for the British market, "Hits and Rarities" combines a good basic Sheryl Crow hits compilation with a collection of rarities that are either not that rare or interesting. The first disc is the stronger of the two, containing almost all of her big hits, not presented chronologically but presented entertainingly and not leaning too heavily on any particular era.

Here, there are a few minor rarities - the alternate Corrs version of "C'mon C'mon," soundtrack contributions to the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, the film Home of the Brave ("Try Not to Remember"), and her unfortunate cover of Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" from Adam Sandler's Big Daddy - which actually seem rarer than the stuff on the second disc.

Seven of the 12 tracks there are live, many taken from the 2003 Live at Budokan, then there are two alternate takes, the B-sides "Chances Are," "Subway Ride," and a 1996 cover of Derek & the Dominos' "Keep on Growing." Nothing bad here, but hardly a worthy collection of Crow's stray tracks and certainly not worth seeking out, as it's neither complete nor really compelling.

But the hits disc is good and if you're in the home territory, or find this at a bargain price, it's a nice - if not necessary - package overall. - cduniverse.com

Described as “The Pixies in a cowboy hat” by West Coast Performer magazine, The Famous forge a sound that “combines the transcendent roar of punk with the brutal honesty and black wit of traditional country,” as heard on their debut album “Light, Sweet Crude.” Their follow-up album “Come Home to Me” is an audacious 11-song blast of indie rock fused with hard-edged Americana that continues in the direction established on their debut, while venturing into fuzzed-out garage-blues, New Orleans swamp jazz, and Tex-Mex flavored surf. With an energetic and always entertaining live show, The Famous are sure to appeal to fans of The Old 97s, Frank Black or Uncle Tupelo.

The album chronicles four years of change, both political and personal. Singer Laurence Scott’s two-year sojourn in the southwest desert of Tucson and his eventual return provided much of the inspiration for this latest material. With tales of lost and found love, renewal of belief, and modern parables of social upheaval, “Come Home To Me” evokes the themes and stark imagery found in Cormac McCarthy’s Border Trilogy or Luis Alberto Urrea’s “The Devil’s Highway.”

“Come Home to Me,” features guest appearances by Bay Area pedal steel legend Joe Goldmark, and jazz trombonist Charlie Wilson (Brasshopper) whose contributions bring new textures to The Famous' sonic landscape. The album was recorded at San Francisco’s Tiny Telephone among other studios and mixed in Dallas, Texas by Stuart Sikes (Modest Mouse, Cat Power, White Stripes.)

Hun nieuwste album, met de titel Last Look at Eden is uitgebracht in 2009.

With oodles of critical praise but disappointing commercial response, Tift Merritt's terrific 2002 debut was a qualified success. On her follow-up two years later, she gradually but decidedly moves her ringing country rock toward a more classic soul sound. With producer George Drakoulias -- who mined similar territory with Maria McKee -- providing the musical muscle, the album is an impressive accomplishment. Merritt sure has the pipes for this stirring soul/Americana music.

She sings with an aching acquiescence common to country artists such as Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton, but belts out these tunes with the power of Linda Ronstadt in her prime. Drakoulias wisely places her tough yet tender vocals front and center in the mix, leaving her faceless but competent backup musicians to carry the bluesy twang she has perfected here. Dusty Springfield and McKee have both covered this ground, but on Memphis soul shots like "Good Hearted Man" and especially "Your Love Made a U Turn" with full, blaring horns and R&B backing vocals, the effect is explosive and revelatory. "Ain't Looking Closely" takes its ringing guitar straight from Roger McGuinn's Byrds days, but the meaty approach and chorus is strictly Southern. The blues that infuses "Still Pretending" adds a torchy Dwight Yoakam/George Jones approach with Merritt projecting hurt resignation on top of subtle strings and a classic country sound out of the '60s.

"The Plainest Thing" strips down the backing to bare organ, brushed drums, and spare guitar, leaving plenty of room for Merritt's luxurious voice. But it's the more upbeat tracks that rule, as Merritt and Drakoulias' firm control and extraordinary sense of dynamics shoot this album into orbit. Tambourine is a remarkably mature, confident, and commanding release that defines then rides its groove with no low points. It should make Merritt the star she deserves to be.

Thompson Square isn’t a real place, exactly. It’s the musical territory staked out by the husband-and-wife duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, an exciting and unpredictable area where country meets rock, rough meets smooth and one vagabond heart finds a harmonious common ground with another. It’s the sweet destination where two journeys end and another one begins. “It’s the place where we create our thing, a little fantasyland where we live,” Keifer says.

And now the rest of us get to discover that magical place, starting with the duo’s new self-titled debut album. Fans began truly getting to know their way around Thompson Square with the release of the infectious radio smash “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” a fitting introduction to the Thompsons’ natural chemistry and spirit of buoyant romance. Things have happened very quickly since then: they’ve been rapturously received as an opening act on superstar Jason Aldean’s tour, packed high-energy shows of their own and seen the “Kiss Me” video become a favorite on CMT and GAC. Perhaps most emotional for the duo was their debut performance on the legendary Grand Ole Opry. “That was bucket-list stuff,” says Shawna. “That’s something you dream about all your life.” The suddenness of their success belies the fact that—separately and together—Keifer and Shawna have been learning their craft in Nashville for a decade. “To see it paying off right now is elating,” Keifer says. “Every day I try to take a little time, soak it all in and say thanks.”

Every day now, more and more fans are getting a taste of that “real stuff” and deciding they like what they hear—and the Thompsons couldn’t be happier or more grateful. “A year ago we were bartending down on Broadway,” Keifer says. “To go from behind the bar to the other side of the world, it’s been difficult to grasp the magnitude of what’s going on. We just try to put out songs that we love, and we hope our fans will like them too. The rest is in God’s hands.”

Music City’s new duo, The JaneDear Girls, boldly announce their arrival onto the country music scene with their euphoric self-titled debut. The female twosome’s sound is a breath of fresh air and a welcome addition to the current risk-adverse and cynical musical climate.

Their unique brand of effervescent, girl-power country pop belongs somewhere in the musical landscape between Shania Twain and Taylor Swift. Hence, this most definitely will not be well received by traditional country enthusiasts.
They consist of Utah born Susie Brown and Texan Danelle Leverett, who met while independently seeking their musical destinies in Nashville. After writing songs together, the two artists decided to team up as partners, and The JaneDear Girls were born.

Shortly after their formation, Muzik Mafia member John Rich took them under his wing and became the girls’ musical mentor, as well as producer of their eponymous debut.
It’s a musical party of an album steeped in lyrics concerning affair of the heart topics such as: love, heartbreak and innocence lost, which is delivered with a youthful zest and zeal. Upon first listen it may sound like nothing more than pop fluff, but underneath the layers of production is a collection of carefully crafted gems with an endearing quality that will most likely be gobbled up and revered by its target audience.

Six years ago, Martha’s Trouble, an Americana folk/pop duo, released a nationally, critically acclaimed album, “Forget October.” Since, the duo has all but been quiet, touring the country, writing and recording, preparing for the next leg of their epic adventure.

The new album, Anchor Tattoo takes the duo back to their roots, bringing back their signature sound – an Americana/folk album with pop essence – that made them touch so many when they first came to the music scene 12 years ago. “I think we went through a discovery process trying different things over the years and landed on what I would say our strength is,” Jen said. “But it took some trying.

I think that’s good though. You try different things and you come to a place where you belong, where you fit. That’s what we did. And now we are stronger than ever.” “Our fans can expect a very fresh, honest, uplifting album. It’s very true to ourselves,” Jen said. “It’s who we are. We are not trying to be like any other band or trying to be like the next trend in music. I think our fans who like us ‘live’ as a duo or trio, will like this record. It is still a fully produced record, but it’s not overdone. We were able to spend a lot of time with it and it is our most thoughtful, mature record to date.”

Siobhan Maher-Kennedy is an English singer and songwriter. Maher (who later became Maher-Kennedy when she married producer Ray Kennedy) started her career with a number of children's television shows in the mid-1980's. Before she became better known for her magnificent singing voice.

In 2002, Maher-Kennedy, as she was now officially known, recorded and released a stunning album titled "Immigrant Flower," perhaps her best record to date. With rollicking songs like "Fearless Heart," "Kiss On The Lips," and "Why'd You Have To Be So Good To Me,"

Maher-Kennedy's first real solo release is a must-have for any afficionado of strong, sensuous, and heartfelt female vocalists. Sadly, "Immigrant Flower" is also Maher-Kennedy's last album to date, and fans are both anxious and eager to know if and when she will release another album. She is too precious a talent to risk fading into obscurity, and one can only hope she will make a return to the studio someday.

Life has changed a great deal for Brandon Heath since the release of his 2008 sophomore album What If We. The success of that project, fueled by the massive No. 1 single “Give Me Your Eyes,” catapulted Heath into the consciousness of Christian music fans.

With a true songwriter’s gift of making the personal universal, Heath became a voice you wanted to listen to, both in terms of tone and content of his words. And he’s been rewarded for that work with numerous trips to the Dove Awards stage to claim trophies, including two consecutive years (2009 and 2010) as the Gospel Music Association’s Male Vocalist of the Year.

When it came time for the GRAMMY-nominated artist to begin crafting the songs that make up this newest effort, titled Leaving Eden, one would assume his most comfortable part of the job – songwriting – would fall right into place.

Fueled by collaboration, Brandon turned to his friends and fellow co-writers to help shape the new material. His first co-writing session was with award-winning songwriter/producer Jason Ingram, who previously teamed with Heath on their GMA 2009 Song of the Year hit, “Give Me Your Eyes.” The result is Leaving Eden’s first radio single, “Your Love.”

27 Miles was formed in 2001 as The 454 Band, but changed their name to 27 Miles in 2005 due legal issues. With unique blend of Southern rock, metal, blues and country, 27 Miles is part of the new Southern rock underground, which has been rising in the States in past ten years and the band has found lot of new fans since their 2006 debut album, "Bringin' It Back".

At the moment 27 Miles are Kevin “Solly” Solomon on lead vocals and rhythm/lead guitar, Donny Kulp on rhythm/lead guitar, Jason “JB” Benfield on Bass and Kurt Custer on Drums and back-up vocals. Each member of the band has a long history in the music biz; Childhood friends Solly and Donny started playing at young age and formed their first bands soon after. Bass player Jason Benfields started rockin at the tender age of 13 and has been playing with different bands ever since.

Daniel introduced the band to Producer/Engineer Brian Dobbs who finally mixed the band’s 2006 release 'Bringin' It Back'.
The band had a special guests Dean Deleo from Stone Temple Pilots to drop in the studio and throw down a solos on "Where I Belong" as well as "Lessons Learned" and Duane Betts, son of Dickie Betts of the Allman Brothers Band on the song, "Brotherhood". Kevin Solomon’s powerful voice and Kulp's explosive guitar dominate their debut album, but there are also great vocal harmonies on most of the songs and every Southern rock fan should check out their album.

If the 10 years these Texas guitarists have spent as a team exploring the world bar by bar has been "research," what they've learned is how to please a crowd. The formula's simple: no-frills songs about women and working for a livin', set to meat-and-potatoes arrangements that leave plenty of room for their guitars to roam.

Kubek's six-string snarls the loudest, hitting Albert Collins-style sustains and grinding out beefy chords. King skirts around the fringes with his sweet-toned, jazz-informed fills or works at groove-level, anchoring things with his basic, chopping, R&B-style chording. King's vocals are really his trump card. They're smooth and slinky when he's romancing in "Make It Right" or gravelly as Kubek's fluid guitar when he's a driven man in numbers like "Runnin' Blind."

The album ends with the kind of guitar grand finale that sets a crowd on fire just after last call. The tune, "Standing in My Door," lets both six-stringers sting. Bnois King lays down a red carpet of sliding chords and Smokin' Joe struts through, doing his own dirty take on B.B. King's vibrato-laden style, bending notes and letting them sing. Then Bnois take the lead, his cleaner fretboard diction cutting even closer to B.B.'s lines before he returns to the microphone to sing the closing chorus. Fans of the Lone Star State's blues guitar tradition need to check these guys out.

In and Out of Consciousness staan.

Released in 1994, A Night In San Francisco was Van Morrison's third official live album and is an epic collection - two and half hours of amazing music that takes its cue from the traditional 'show-bands' – putting the focus on the band, led by the estimable Georgie Fame but also featuring singers James Hunter (now a critically-acclaimed solo performer), Brian Kennedy, saxophonist Candy Dulfer and blues legends John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells and Jimmy Witherspoon and also Morrison's daughter Shana!

Newly remastered sound and expanded packaging including lyrics of the Two CD set reissue of the 1994 album, recorded live A Night in San Francisco by Van Morrison. In contrast to these commercially-successful but not always critically acclaimed albums, the 1994 live double album, A Night in San Francisco was a "tour-de-force", clearly demonstrating Morrison's talents and his influences in equal measure and reached #8 on the UK charts. The Rolling Stone magazine review states the album stands as: "the culmination of a career's worth of soul-searching that finds Morrison's eyes turned toward heaven and his feet planted firmly on the ground."

Een nieuwe plaat van AC/DC?

Nee dus.

'Dark is the Way, Light is a Place' volgt 'New Surrender' uit 2008 op.

"Girls with Guitars" - the 2011 Ruf Records Blues Caravan Tour - presents three of the scene's hottest young female guitar slingers on a single stage. Over the past six years, the Blues Caravan has toured successfully in the UK, USA and throughout continental Europe.

This unique triple bill revue has helped introduce bright new stars such as Ana Popovic and Joanne Shaw Taylor to an international audience. Following in their footsteps on the 2011 tour is a trio of dynamic, up-and-coming blues talents: Dani Wilde, Cassie Taylor and Samantha Fish.
Hailing from Brighton, England, Dani Wilde sings the blues with the old-school fervor of Aretha Franklin, but also takes a cue from contemporaries like Duffy and Joss Stone. The singer/songwriter/guitarist has just released her second album, Shine, a collaboration with renowned producer Mike Vernon (Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac).

This trio of young, passionate performers is backed by a top-flight band of road-tested professionals for more than two hours of live blues excellence. As a foretaste for their upcomining shows around the world, the three guitarists recorded a common album in November 2010 in Berlin at the Studio Erde, which will be released to the blast-off to their tour.

"The Blues + The Rock Collection's" are two compilation albums by legendary guitarist, 'Gary Moore'. Released separately in 2003, they were re-released as a two album, limited edition box set in 2004. All the tracks are taken from his extensive album discography and were remastered in 2002.

Belfast.

<< -- Platinum collection. 01. Oh Pretty Woman 02. Walking By Myself 03. That Kind Of Woman 04. Parisienne Walkways (Live) 05. Cold Day In Hell 06. Out In The Fields 07. Run For Cover 08. Shapes Of Things To Come 09. Wishing Well (Live) 10. After The War 11. Rockin' Every Night 12. The Sky Is Crying

In
Zijn meest recente album is Bad for you baby.

Astral Doors returns with "Testament of Rock-The Best of Astral Doors"; a real pleaser for old and new fans, which also contains the majestic hockey anthem, "Victory", previously only released in Swedish. But hey; perhaps you want to know more about Astral Doors?!

Lekkere preview hier.

Don't worry; below you can read the full biography.
In early 2002, Swedish guitarist Joachim Nordlund and drummer Johan Lindstedt teamed up and decided to write some metal songs in the spirit of the old heroes Rainbow, Dio, Sabbath and Deep Purple. Nils Patrik Johansson, an old time friend of Johan, was asked to do the vocals in the project. Nils Patrik accepted the offer and ASTRAL DOORS was almost a reality. Joachim asked his former band-mate Jocke Roberg, if he wanted to join, and a handshake later the band had a keyboarder. Martin Haglund, guitar and Mika Itaranta, bass, also joined the Astral Forces and the band was now complete.

With songs like "Power and the Glory", "Testament of Rock", "St. Peters Cross" and many more, the album will be recognized as one of the best Astral Doors albums to this day. After playing some of the most important festivals 2010, the band decided to put together a compilation with their best songs as a treat for old fans, but most important; to win over new fans. "Testament of Rock-The Best of Astral Doors" also contains a previous unreleased song.

With a deft, fingerpicking style that references bluegrass, jazz, blues, and rock, Knopfler's guitar playing sounds like no one else's. And his literate, evocative pop songs and understated, Dylan-esque vocal delivery are by no means run of the mill either. Nestled between his best-known tunes ("Sultans of Swing;" "Money for Nothing"), are gems like the grooving "Skateaway," the jazzy, minor-key "Your Latest Trick," and the instrumental "Going Home." While PRIVATE INVESTIGATIONS is not comprehensive in terms of either the Dire Straits catalogue or its leader's solo output, it is an excellent sampler of Knopfler's talents.

Since the 1970s Mark Knopfler has been carving out a niche for himself as a distinctive and much-admired songwriter and guitarist, first with his band Dire Straits and later as a solo artist.

This 2-disc set collects many of the highlights from both phases of Knopfler's career.
For the first time, a compilation brings together the best of one of rock's most admired bands, Dire Straits, and the best of its leader, guitarist-singer-songwriter Mark Knopfler. Private Investigations: Best of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler, a double CD, spans their entire careers.

Leuk !

Joe Nichols was born and raised in Rogers, Arkansas. Second son of Michael Curtis Nichols and Robin Larson Nichols. Joe has an older brother Michael C. Jr and a younger sister Kelli. His father, who worked as a trucker, also played bass guitar in local country bands; eventually, Nichols himself found work in a local rock band, before taking a job as a country disc jockey.[1] Nichols is part Cherokee.

One Step Away first began in 2006 when friends Terence Healy (guitar) and Mike Nuzzolo (bass) began jamming together. It wasn't long before Adam Carrington brought his classically trained voice into the mix, helping to define the sound that would become associated with One Step Away.

An EP later and drummer Ben Trudeau joined the fray. The path since then has been an upward one, with larger and larger gigs covering a bigger geographic area. One Step Away has now played coast to coast and won several regional and national competitions for songwriting and performance.

In early 2010 One Step Away dove into the studio with producers Dan Malsch and Alec Henninger of Soundmine Recording Studio (Four Year Strong, Framing Hanley, Forever the Sickest Kids). The resulting album, For the Broken, has One Step Away poised on the brink of the big time.

One Step Away has appeared on several TV and radio stations including: WBZ, Fox TV38, WCTX, WNAC, WSBK, WPXT, My R.I. TV, WWLP, WBRU, WZLX,WPXC,WMLN, WSNC, FM102x, WCAP and performed with big name bands on stages like Universal Studios Hollywood, Fox Theater, MGM Grand and more. In December 2010, One Step away was featured in Alternative Press Issue #269 and Skope Magazine.

Pete Droge is an American alternative/folk rock musician from Bainbridge Island in Washington State's Puget Sound. Pete Droge's debut album, "Necktie Second", finds the singer/songwriter following the footsteps of Tom Petty and Neil Young.

At this stage, Droge might not be as melodically sturdy as either of his influences, yet he can turn out a charming piece of roots rock like "If You Don't Love Me (I'll Kill Myself)" without much effort. "If You Don't Love Me" isn't indicative of the rest of the record — throughout Necktie Second, he's hunched over an acoustic guitar, singing sensitive, confessional songs.

He's got a more distinct backbeat and a bit more grit than most singer/songwriters, but many ofmore… the songs fail to be really compelling, making "Necktie Second" a promising debut, but not a particularly remarkable one.

On her second album for the Sugar Hill label, singer-songwriter Allison Moorer offers up another strong set of (largely) self-penned tunes. Like her genre-defying older sister, Shelby Lynne, Moorer is intent on straying from her country roots while still keeping them in the fold. This subtle stylistic tweaking is best heard on "Fairweather," co-written with GETTING SOMEWHERE's producer, Steve Earle, who expertly brings out the pop/rock elements in these 10 song Op het door Earle geproduceerde 'Getting Somewhere' zijn de donderwolken en logge countryrock van weleer grotendeels verdwenen.

('Work To Do') is géén goed idee, en het goedbedoelde maar sentimentele eerbetoon aan zusje Shelby Lynne ('Where You Are') had best zonder de stroperige violen gekund. Nog erger zijn 'Fairweather' en 'If It's Just For Today' die ons - aargh!
